What is an Advanced Driving Day?
I offer a half day or full day advanced driving course which will be tailored to suit your individual requirements and needs, be it back to basics or very top end advanced driving. Find more details on these courses, including pricing, below. The very best people to provide this service are police class 1 drivers with operational experience who have also been a Police Advanced Driving Instructor with years of experience at a Police Driving School. The objective is to improve your driving skills, knowledge of driving and have answered all the questions you have ever thought of. An ‘Advanced Driving Day’ is aimed at any driver with a full driving licence seeking to improve their driving skills. Chris welcomes nervous drivers and those who have lost confidence in driving for whatever reason.
Chris generally uses the roads he used for 22 years teaching police officers advanced driving skills, so the roads are both enjoyable and challenging to drive. There are some excellent, instructional value driving roads in nearby Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
If you would like to join your husband, wife, son, daughter, partner or friend in the car as an observer, you are welcome to do so at no extra charge.

“I was involved in a fairly serious car accident in early 2021 and with that my confidence was shot. I was advised by my solicitors to have a refresher course in driving. With this, I found Chris Gilbert and was happy after speaking with him about my worries and concerns and he reassured me he was the right man for the job. We spent over 5 hrs together driving and having mini tutorials which helped reinforce the driving skills I was being taught. Chris is a superb driving instructor and is an asset to have in educating drivers to becoming better safer and wiser drivers.
Thanks again for all of your hard work on that day”.

Customer Reviews
“I want to say a big thank you for a really enjoyable day out driving with you last Monday. I greatly valued all your input and it has allowed me to do some very real learning that is already improving my driving. And as a trainer myself (in a different field), I also really enjoyed your skills in creating a safe and supportive learning environment – I may have picked up a few tips from you there too! Thank you again for all your kindness, supportiveness and for sharing your deep expertise with me.

“The three things I would share with any prospective client is as follows …..
First would be structure – there is, of course, a lot to take in, and one can’t help being a bit nervous to start, while trying not to make mistakes or feel like it is test day. But the day evolves and develops, from initial assessment drive, where Chris calmly observes your baseline skills, habits and style. To more technical aspects of the craft, like roundabouts and reading the road with Limit Points. We started with some fundamentals that I felt I could assimilate and apply to the rest of the day – especially as they are in easy to remember sort of sayings, then progressed to some subtle aspects that, when they did click ( a few times at least) and really brought the whole system to life.
The second insite for me, was how much more aware I became, the car’s behaviour. Especially as I tried to implement some of the techniques, over the course of the day. In hindsight, and even though I wasn’t so aware of it at the time, I could recall and compare how ‘frantic’ things felt before, versus by the end, when I got closer to applying the more subtle aspects of accelerator and brake application, correct speed’ and steering technique. The feel of the car, with more consistent and definitive inputs, was also very responsive and engaging with the legal limits.
The final thing I would say is how I left feeling that I wanted to do more. Maybe not that day as I was knackered (!!!), but definitely in coming weeks or months. I had enough to go away with and the desire to practice that. But in a no pressure sort of way – by the end I was just happy to actually enjoy the coaching and just let myself absorb and assimilate the information more naturally, or with less stress.
Challenging, but actually very relaxing – would recommend this to anyone that wants to get the most out of their road driving experience, track driving regulars, or even motorcyclists, who will definitely appreciate some of the synergies between these two modes of transport.
